MedSkills, a Leonardo da Vinci project, supported by the European Community, addresses the management of common emergency conditions and aims to provide a free resource for training at all professional levels.
The main idea of this project was to encompass the discrepancies in techniques to handle medical conditions or emergencies between the EU countries.
Target users of this educational website include students and professionals in the medical and paramedical working environment; comprising physicians, nurses, fire men, emergency technicians and medical volunteers.
The educational framework incorporates medical information about "Medical Fundamentals™", "Chest pain™", "Respiratory difficulties™", "Shock™", "Burns™", "Minor Surgery™" and "Birth™" at a range of levels of depth (cellular, organ, body, best treatment) to suit the requirements of each user specifically.
MedSkills is a product that resulted from the collaboration of different European partners; namely: Vrije Universiteit Brussel (BE), Erasmushogeschool (BE), UniWeb (BE), Universidad Politecnica de Madrid: Grupo de Bioingenieria y telemedicine (ES), Servicio de urgencies y rescate del ayuntamiento de Madrid Samur (ES), University of Athens: Health Informatics laboratory faculty of nursing (EL), Universita degli study di Perugia (IT), Wroclaw Medical University: department of family medicine (PL) and the University of Liverpool: Clinical skills resource center (UK).
